So, that's two votes for a bunch of idiots who have no chance of actually winning (amazing how the first description doesn't narrow it down at all, is it?).
Business as usual I'd say. But I didn't even bother with my tactical first vote this time.
Wohoo.

And wow. Voting machines. Highly technical. That's why two people's only job was to explain: "Press the button for the first vote. Then press the button for the second vote. Then press the blue 'Vote' button. To change anything press 'correct'. You can also simply follow the instructions on the screen." And before you enter the booth you get told again "First vote, Second vote, blue button".
How hard can it be?

Technical first vote? I have nly heard of technical second votes so far...

I think I might have forgotten exactly which list is which. Isn't the first one direct candidate and the second party? Now that I think about it, otherwise the whole "Zweitstimme ist Joschkastimme" or "FDP Liste 2" wouldn't make any sense, would it?

I've only seen the 'tactical vote' term used in the sense that for example giving a first vote to the candidate of the left party (not that I'm even tempted to do so) would be a waste in this area.
So better use this vote for a candidate of a large party you don't hate too much and have a chance of influencing the result.

Ah, I see. Yes, giving the Erststimme to a candidate of the large parties is a good ideas. Taktische Zweitstimme refers to voting for the 'little parties' e.g. FDP and Greens, so they get into the Bundestag to support the big ones. I heard the FDP and Greens are a bit worried about this today...

Ah. So I had my terms confused again.

Note to self: Taktisch wählen ist nicht gleich taktische Zweitstimme.

But I doubt my direct vote will have much weight, and even my Zweitstimme won't matter much.
Can't you just feel my enthusiasm for the democratic process radiating off me?
