Leipzig really needs some larger flag poles in front of the town hall. Because flags at half-mast really look silly if they're nearly hitting passer-bys in the face.

Are your flagpoles like 2 meters tall?

I've never checked, but I don't think they're more than 5 metres.
And I suck at estimating, but I think the flags are about 2.5 m high. So the lower edge is just the right height to annoy people over 1.75 m.

London has "mind the gap", I guess Leipzig has "mind the flags" (but in German of course).

i wondered about that! why are they half mast? it's been like this for weeks. did i miss soemthing?

I know they've been at half-mast for a while after the tsunami - and I thought yesterday had something to do with the 60 year liberation of Auschwitz thing. But if they've been at half-mast the whole time, I've don't have any clue why.
