Can you hear it?
It's the sound of a Ridicully collapsing after the 12th consecutive day of work during which a mild case of food poisoning and one night of work - with accordingly less than 3 hours of sleep for that day - also occurred.
And you know what I'm going to do tomorrow? Go in to work and help with random tasks to get to listen to a whole day of lectures of a specialization course for free.
Call me if you find my sanity.
But *wheeeeee*. By being responsible for the wards last weekend (as task which is done during the week by five vets, two keepers and random students, which has to be done on the weekends by one vet, one keeper for half of the day and some of the random students) I earned the first ever money as a vet. A whole 96€.
(No, we don't get paid for working our asses off 50+ hours Mo-Fri. Only night shifts and weekends get paid. And not much either as you can see. Please re: lack of sanity.
Still. Money. For doing my job. Wheee!)

Why don't you get paid? Is it some sort of internship/probation/you have to work for us x amount of time first? I work crazy hours, but at least I do get paid for them. You deserve some more cash!

Those who don't know that going in mostly give up in less than a month. The rest of us put up with it by telling ourselves that it's only for 2-3 years and we get an adviser (how ever little advising he is doing) and a place to do the studies for our research doctorate.
Still, money would certainly be nice *g*
