Umm. Yay? With an added sad face?
Mama, just killed a cat, put a syringe against its leg, pushed the plunger, now it's dead...
So, I killed my first cat today
I know I shouldn't be excited about this, but no matter where I did my internships, students were not allowed to put animals to sleep. Or if they did, I don't remember getting to do it.
(The cat did have a brain tumor (a meningioma for those who care), which, though it would have been operable, made it the reasonable decision to euthanize it. And since it was already sedated for the CT, I didn't yet have to deal with an animal freaking out in agony, nor with sad owners, which is always the worst part.)
In less macabre news, my family is in town for the weekend.
My sister wants me to take her to a store to buy some D&D books. I'm out-geeked by my little sister. I don't know if I can live with the shame.

I'm sure that a good part of that was that she'd had enough experience euthanizing animals to be able to maintain that sort of professional demeanor. Losing a pet is very sad, and death is...well, freaky. Having someone on hand who wasn't freaked out by it really, really helped.
All of which I guess is to say: valuable learning experience for you, and not only on the technical level.
