Back in Leipzig. Two hours of only radio coverage of the elections made me long for pie charts.

Dear politicians: Ruling out every possible coalition about five seconds after the first prognoses isn't a very smart move.

Dear people I offered a ride from Frankfurt to Leipzig: You might not like the FDP, but until you're giving me concrete examples, don't say "The FDP's political idea is pretty similar to the NSDAP's." For one, see the S in NSDAP? That for socialist. That's about as far as you can get from liberalism.
I don't mind bashing the idiots, but please lets bash them for the right things, ok?

Dear self: Just get used to people never ever guessing/believing your (very vague and very not connected to a party) political opinion.

*heads for the statistics*

ETA: The (still suspect) voting machines have one huge advantage: Quickly available statistics for my home town.
*loves basic statistics* ([livejournal.com profile] kriski, don't laugh :p [and good luck tomorrow!])*

FDP like NSDAP? What the hell have they been smoking? I'm sure the NSDAP was for the equality of same-sex unions (that's why they put all the gays into concentration camps, you know) or for the abolishment of compulsory military service. Sheesh.

Mmmh, not to forget that the "social" in NSDAP is more of a joke anyway. Since you know, they weren't exactly so social unless social=dictatory nowadays.

Although I must say I HATE how the FDP is far from normal liberalism anyway - they should take a page out of the Liberal Democrats over here, methinks!

actually the "S" stood for socialist, not social. ideologically there was a kinship to socialist/communist ideology. the way the party was structured and infiltrated every aspect of society comes immediately to mind.

[identity profile] starcrossedgirl.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, the s was for socialist, which I originally meant. I hate when my hands don't coincide with my brain!

In any case, Nationalsozialismus and Sozialismus are ideologically about as similar as apples and bananas. Which was, uhm one of the reasons why people at the time didn't anticipate the Hitler-Stalin pact at all.

Yeah, I agree. There simply is no party in Germany I can identify with. Which was why I was nearly going berserk during the British elections, because I desperately wanted to vote LibDem but well, couldn't.

I hardly know anything about German politics but that sounds way off to me. For one thing, NSDAP involved a high degree of government control in both the economic and social spheres, from what I've heard the NDP is all about minimal government (and they would be closest to the Libertarian Party here in the US).
