Exactly where do I find the bright side of life so that I can look at it?

Positive:
Lachesis (the desktop) decided to find most of my pictures with their original names again on the last reboot. Less sorting = good.

Negative:
Finding these files apparently broke the camel's back. Win XP decided that killing itself would be the best way out.

Kind of positive:
It doesn't appear to be the result of any virus or something like it. Just regular Windows shitting itself after running more or less 24/7 for about 10 months.

"Thank the heavens and everyone that will listen" good:
I don't keep any data on the same drive as the OS. And additionally I regularly back up everything but pictures on the portable HD and a DVD.

Fucking annoying:
Having to reinstall XP and all the essential programs.

I'm not ignoring comments and eMail, I'm just kind of busy getting the (usually) more reliable computer back online.

It's great that you have everything backed up. Someone at work just had their computer choke and they didn't have it backed up. It had to be wiped and OS reinstalled. Oops. Too bad. At work I backup all my data files to a network drive that itself gets backed up every night. Redundancy can be a good thing. I turn off my home computer every night and shutdown the work computers every Friday before I leave (since I'm usually the last one to leave).
