Man. People seem to be jumping all over the place. I guess they're frustrated and don't know what to do about it. Would also explain all those new Nichtwähler. It makes them seem fickle, yeah, but at least they're changing their votes instead of sticking with the same people and hoping that will magically work.
What's up with these Linken? How are they different from the SPD or the Greens? (I really have no idea how to declinate German nouns when used in English, so sorry if they look funny.)
For the first time, I wish I was still talking to my German member-of-die-Grünen ex-boyfriend. He was always so smug about German politics being superior to American, that most Germans would never vote for such far-right wackos because they had better sense and weren't letting themselves be brainwashed. Though I do enjoy the whole German system, with the two votes and the 22-year-old Abgeordnete and such, I never could convince him that people are sometimes going to act silly no matter where they're from. Even if he doesn't change his mind, I hope he sees those stats and shuts up for five minutes. Vengeful? Me? Nooooo :)
Die Linke is generally speaking just a bit more to the left than the other two. Very oversimplified they're the communist party (while still managing not to be forbidden for extremism).
Personally I'm convinced that people will *always* do stupid things and the best kind of government would actually be a dictatorship with some kind of all knowing benign saint as ruler. But since that's somehow unrealistic, I'll settle for voting for what I hate least and complaining for the next four years afterward.
What I've always thought most strange about American politics is the believing in the parties/candidates. Or at least beliving in them to a degree that you're procrlaiming louldly and proudly to have voted for them. This kind of enthusiasm is along the same lines as being a member of a political party for me. ("What do you mean? You agree with so many of their ideas that you actually joined them? What kind of radical are you?") So you ex seems like a strange person to me anyway *g* But I doubt these numbers will convince him. People have always changed sides in elections (There's even a term for them: Wechselwähler) and if he refused to acknowledge it before he'd probably just turn a blind eye now.
